Organizations in the United States which have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as well as public agencies and municipalities. Furthermore will also consider grant requests from organizations based outside the United States if they have a US fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) status. We cannot make grants to individuals.
The ideal time to apply is when you can supply every item requested in the application. You must apply at least three months before your publication will be printed.

An IRS determination letter confirms an applicant organization’s legal status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. An IRS determination letter must be submitted with each new application, even if you have applied to us in the past.
Please submit text that offers a clear sense of the narrative flow of the book rather than simply a sample of writing style. An introduction plus one or two chapters is ideal. It’s also important for our review committee to get as clear a sense as possible of what the finished product will look like. For example, the relationship of text, illustrations, and captions can be of great interest.
Generally, Furthermore does not fund reprints, children’s books, conference proceedings, textbooks, or workbooks.
Grantees are requested to send a brief progress report approximately every six months. We ask that our credit line and logo be placed on the copyright page of the finished product and that Furthermore be mentioned in the acknowledgements section. Proper wording and placement are important to us. Lastly, we request two copies of the final product be sent to us for archival purposes.
